Are You Our Client or Our Customer?
Jennifer Barangan Director of Talent Support#News & Culture
Client and Customer may seem like similar concepts, but to us there is a big difference. This distinction is a vital part to the foundation of each and every partnership at Diagram.
What's the Difference?
Does it really matter? Do you care whether you are called a Client or a Customer? Does this title truly make any difference? Perhaps an English lesson may help clarify the distinction. According to a very reputable online resource, a “Customer” is defined as a person who purchases goods or services from another, while a “Client” is defined as a person or group who engages the professional advice or services of another. Are you still thinking, “What’s the difference?”
The Importance of Client Services
At Diagram, the difference seems very apparent to us, and it demonstrates why we choose to call you our Clients. You are not just purchasing some widgets from us, and once you have received your widgets and paid your bill we move on to the next order. We believe that when you choose to work with Diagram, you become part of the Diagram family. Our relationship with our Clients is part of the foundation of why we do what we do and why Diagram has been around for over 17 years. We spend each and every day working hard to make sure that the Clients that have engaged us to work with them (whether it is to design, program, or host their website) truly feel that we are a partner for them to rely on. We want our Clients to know that their project with us is the most important thing we are working on and that we understand and value that the service we are providing is of utmost importance to their business.
Diagram’s Client Services department lives and breathes our Clients. Each and every day, our primary responsibility is to maintain our Client relationships. What makes this easier is that this mentality runs throughout Diagram, from our UX designers to our Hosting Engineers. We are all constantly working together to serve the best interests of our family of Clients.
I don’t know about you, but I would much rather be called a Client than a Customer. Let us know what you think!
